Open Data Standards

For Maritime

ITxMaritime is a new international, non-profit association dedicated to enabling true interoperability across the maritime sector.

This is ITxMaritime

Our purpose is simple

Foster a member led community

Create a collaborative space where members contribute and benefit together.

Create the best standard for interoperability

Help the industry adopt existing standards and develop new specifications

Facilitate innovation and collaboration

Support compatibility, innovation, and efficiency in an increasingly digital maritime world

Speaking the same language

The maritime industry is entering a new era of digital transformation on the back of digitization of information. For this journey to succeed the data produced must be cost effectively communicated between stakeholders by means of ‘a common language’.

The Initiative – Interoperable DAta For Maritime

That’s why ITxMaritime is being formed — an international, non-profit association dedicated to enabling true interoperability across the maritime sector.

Our Purpose

  • Support the industry wide adoption of fit for purpose specifications for seamless and cost effective data exchange while ensuring that the data can provide actionable insights through the use of digital tools such as artificial intelligence.
  • Implement current best practice specifications where these exist and support the development of new specifications where there is a gap.
  • Create a collaborative space where members contribute and benefit together through unlocking the power of digitalization in the maritime industry.

Interoperability

Interoperability permits systems and devices to work seamlessly together. Bringing significant strategic advantages

Benefits

  • Manual intervention is reduced, with lower operational workloads and improved allocation of resources.
  • Decision-making becomes a more reliable and faster with integrated data.
  • Higher degrees of automation, leading to cost savings and smoother operations.
  • Over time, it encourages innovation. New technologies can be plugged into existing infrastructures, unlocking new markets and services without the usual technical friction.

Specifications & standards

ITxMaritime’s role is to build practical specifications that align with the best available standards. We scan the existing standards and identify those that can be incorporated into a specification.

That’s why ITxMaritime is being formed — an international, non-profit association dedicated to enabling true data interoperability across the maritime sector.

  • If suitable standards already exist, they are adopted and integrated.

  • When no relevant standard is available, ITxMaritime develops best-practice solutions designed to address real operational needs.

In this way, ITxMaritime ensures that every specification delivered is firmly rooted in existing standards and fill gaps where necessary.
The specifications themselves are not standards, but structured frameworks that apply standards to deliver data interoperability and practical value for the maritime industry.
