What is ITxMaritime?

ITxMaritime is a non-profit organization by and for the maritime industry established to enable cost effective exchange of data between industry stakeholders.

What is the purpose of ITxMaritime?

The purpose of ITxMaritime is data interoperability through establishing a common way of exchanging maritime data of different types, making sure the data can be interpreted by both humans and machines. This will be achieved by agreeing on relevant fit-for-purpose specifications.

What is the scope of ITxMaritime?

The organization will address interoperability of any data that is relevant for sharing within the maritime industry. Specifications will cover all aspects relevant to achieving cost effective interoperability from hardware to software applications.

How will ITxMaritime achieve standardization?

The organization will endorse a set of fit for purpose specifications to achieve its purpose. New specifications will be developed if there are no relevant existing specifications. Standardization will require industry wide application of these specifications. To reach this goal, the specifications will be actively managed by the organization to make sure they stay fit for purpose, and tools will be developed to support easy adoption.

How is ITxMaritime organized?

The organization will be managed by a general secretary, hired by the organization. It will be a collaborative association with an executive board represented and elected by the members. The executive board will set the direction of the organization. Requirement groups consisting of members will identify and prioritize use cases to be supported by the organization, and working groups consisting of members will support identification or development of requirements to support the use cases. Dedicated personnel hired by the organization will be responsible for managing specifications and supporting adoption of these through dedicated tools.

Any company or organization interested in supporting the vision of cost-effective sharing of data in the maritime industry.

What are the benefits of joining the organization?

Members will have the possibility to influence specifications developed for the purpose of exchanging data as well as gaining first-hand insights into ongoing work in the organizations. Dedicated tools will be made available to members to support implementation of the specifications. The membership will also provide access to community gatherings with associated insights and networking opportunities.

What is required by members of the organization?

Each member of the organization decides their degree of engagement, but the benefit will likely be proportional to the engagement.

How is the organization financed?

The organization is financed by membership fees. The fees will go towards covering the operational costs. The organization will be non-profit.

What is the current status and roadmap of ITxMaritime?

The non-profit organization is ready to go. Initial use cases have been identified, and pilot specifications have been tested in the use cases. Weekly steering committee and bi-weekly technical meetings are being held among the funding members. The intension is to bring in additional members to the community and continue developing specifications. Dedicated resources will be hired to manage the specifications, develop and deploy tools to implement specifications.
